Key Grammar Words
and the Agreement of Subject and Verb
You need to be able to identify the 8 key grammar words on this page because they will be used regularly in grammar lessons during this session.l
يجب أن تصبحن قادرات على تمييز المفاتيح الثمانية لقواعد اللغة الانجليزية لأننا سنستعملها بشكل مستمر في دروس لاحقة .
Clause
A clause is a building block of a sentence. A simple sentence has just one clause.l
A complex sentence has two or more clause.Each clause always has a subject and a verb. It usually has Other Words too.l
هي مجموع تركيبات تستعمل لبناء تعبير أو جملة مفيدة لها معنى . التعبير البسيط يتكون من جملة واحدة بسيطة لها فعل وفاعل وربما يتعداه إلى مفعول به أو نعت أو .... ،والتعبير المركب يتكون من أكثر من جملة واحدة لكل جملة فعلها وفاعلها.
إنتباه !
لتكون الجملة مفيدة يجب أن يكون لها فعل وفاعل ، إذا أضعنا واحد منهما ستكون جملة غير مفيدة أي مختلة المعنى وغير صحيحة .
Subject الفاعل
A subject is one of the main parts of a clause. It is always a noun phrase.l
Verb الفعل
A verb is one of the main parts of the clause that tells something about the action or state of the subject.l
Look at the clauses, subjects and verbs in the following sentences.l
1-One clause: My grandfather was an immigrant from Russia
2-Two clauses :He was a teenager when he arrived in the United States.l
3-Three clauses:Life was difficult because he didn't speak English and his family had no money
4- Four clauses:He didn't go to school but he learned English quickly because he worked in a factory where all the other workers could speak English.l
Noun الاسم
It is a word that identifies a thing, person,place,time or idea
My grandfather was an immigrant from Russia who arrived in the United States in 1920 when he was a teenager.l
Noun phrase الاسم المركب من مجموع كلمات توضح لنا المعنى المنشود ونتعامل معه على أساس إسم واحد
A group of words behaving as one noun
He liked to tell stories about the long and difficult journey from Europe
Pro.noun الضمير الذي يعوض الاسم
A word that replaces a noun
He told me that it took a week to cross the Atlantic Ocean and they nearly sank in a storm
Adjective النعت والصفة هو التعبير الذي نصف به الاسم
A word describing a noun
The boat was crowded, the sea was rough, and the anxious passengers were eager to reach dry land
Adjective phrase مجموعة كلمات نصف بها الاسم (نصف الموصوف في جملة تامة ونستعمل أداة وصل مثل who، that، which....)
A group of words describing a noun
My grandfather can still remember the names of the other teenagers who were on the boat with him
Adverb يستعمل في حالتين :حالة الظرف وكذلك في حالة الحال عندما نريد أن نصف حالة صاحب الحال .
A word modifying a verb or an adjective
When they finally arrived in Italy, the passengers rushed happily to the side of the boat
Preposition حروف الجر
A word showing the connection between parts of a clause, always followed by a noun/ noun phrase or *****un
They stared at the Statue of Liberty in amazement because it represented freedom and hope for their new lives in the United States
